Rome, Italy

Join fellow “Reginaldians” and friends of the Paideia Institute for a special week-long event honoring the life and work of Fr. Reginald Foster by reading and speaking Latin and visiting sites in and around Rome. Former students of Fr. Foster’s courses in Rome and Milwaukee, friends and alumni of the Paideia Institute, and all who love the Latin language are all welcome to attend.

This week-long reunion event will include classroom sessions reading Latin texts, conversational Latin sessions sub arboribus, as well as literary day trips to sites around Rome. All sessions will be moderated by Latinists who are former students of Fr. Foster. The weekend will culminate with a memorial event featuring the dedication of a Latin inscription honoring Fr. Reading sessions will take place in a classroom at the Teresianum.  Conversational Latin sessions sub arboribus will take place in the monastery garden, “under the trees.”  Reading selections will include Fr. Foster’s favorite passages from across the history of Latin literature.

Participants should arrange their own accommodation in Rome convenient to the Teresianum.  For convenience, The Paideia Institute recommends the Casa per Ferie Istituto Orsoline di Maria Immacolata, an affordable guest house within walking distance from the Teresianum. Participants can book their rooms by emailing [email protected] and mentioning the Paideia Institute. Participants seeking to share housing costs can connect via the event’s Facebook group.

The reading sessions and memorial service are free and open to all. The Paideia Institute will arrange transportation, site entry, and group meals on the day trips, as well as one group dinner following the memorial service. The costs of participating in each event will be indicated at registration.
