Corpus Move (The Backstreet Boys' "Everybody" in Latin)

Go Back to the XCs with the Pueri Angiportales
[Editor’s note — Jason Pedicone translated this one for the 2019 LLiNYC conference, with its “body/soul” theme. Yet another of the Max Martin hits that defined the late 1990s, its chorus and pre-chorus are very easy to follow and sing, though it’s worth revisiting the song to figure out the (not very memorable) verse structure.]
CORPUS MOVE / EVERYBODY (Backstreet Boys) (Volle/Martin) (tr. Pedicone) [1997]
Unusquisque… corpus move…
Unusquisque, corpus anima,
mente cum sana!
Edepol sumus reduces!
Fratres sorores cantant omnes.
Quid sit sapor nunc demonstrandumst.
Sed antea interrogandumst:
Sumne ingenuus?
Ita!
Sumne unicus?
Ita!
Sumne amabilis?
Ita!
Sumne quo indigeas?
Corpus ergo moveas!
Unusquisque… Ita!… corpus move… Ita!
Unusquisque, corpus anima,
mente cum sana!… sana!
Nunc manus sursum iacitote
et agitate incuriose
si festum vultis nunc clamate
et corpora nunc animate
Sumne ingenuus?
Ita!
Sumne unicus?
Ita!
Sumne amabilis?
Ita!
Sumne quo indigeas?
corpus ergo moveas!
Unusquisque… Ita!… corpus move… Ita!
Unusquisque, corpus anima,
mente cum sana!… sana!
Jason Pedicone is president of the Paideia Institute, and clearly, to judge from his taste in pop music, grew up in the late 90s.
