DANTE ALIGHIERI, MONARCHIA (ADVANCED LATIN/ITALIAN READING)

Course Description

Course Description: Participants will read the Latin original and both Shaw's facing English translation and Ronconi's facing Italian translation. The purpose of the meetings is to use an advanced level of the Latin or Italian language to reflect together on the contents of the work with a focus on Dante's formal approach to the political theme of the Empire and his method of analysis and reasoning. A written summary of the reflections previously developed on the contents is already available, too. Personal contributions and conversation about the text will be in English or Italian or both. Participants are currently reading Book I Chapter XIV of Monarchia. DETAILS Level: Advanced. Advanced Italian or Latin for further linguistic and cultural enrichment. Textbook: Dante Online-Opere. Sections capped at: 5 students. If the course is sold-out, please fill out this waiting-list form.
