About Our Site and Aequora
Both Govans Elementary School and Roland Park Elementary Middle School are located in Baltimore, Maryland and are proud to partner with The Paideia Institute and offer Aequora as part of our after school enrichment programs. Aequora is shaped by the belief that everyone should have access to Latin and the Classics, and that teaching Latin and the Mediterranean world and culture to young students is inspiring and its impact life long.
Led by independent site coordinators, Aequora envisions Classics as an inclusive, diverse, and socially engaged field. Our textbook, Aequora: Teaching Literacy with Latin, introduces the basics of Latin vocabulary and grammar, Roman culture and mythology, and connections between Latin, English, and Spanish, all through games and activities designed to show students that learning Latin is fun!
How We Teach Aequora
Our Aequora Club runs as a part of the after school enrichment program 1-2 times a month at each location. Govans Elementary is a Baltimore charter school offering classes from pre-K and kindergarten to the fifth grade. Roland Park Elementary Middle School serves grades pre-K to eighth. Both schools are dedicated to empowering a diverse community to achieve success for the whole child through academic rigor, hands-on learning and the creative arts.
The schools are located in close proximity to both The Bryn Mawr and Gilman Schools, both private independent day schools for girls and boys, respectively.
