Living Latin in Rome | Middle School

June 2018

The Living Latin in Rome Middle School program offers young students and their families a week-long introduction to the Latin language and the city of Rome. Participants will learn to listen, speak, and read Latin at the historical sites and instructors will provide a variety of fun, interactive activities that bring the Roman world to life. Student lessons and activities are supplemented by additional programming for parents by knowledgeable guides, allowing students and their families to learn about the classical world together.

This program is open to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students with an interest in Latin and the ancient world and their parents or guardians. Students will be grouped according to experience with Latin. No prior knowledge of Latin is required and complete beginners are welcome.

At Living Latin in Rome Middle School, our classroom is the Eternal City itself. All lessons and activities are conducted on site in some of the most historic and suggestive sites of Rome. Students will learn about gladiators in the Colosseum, travel back to ancient times along the Appian way, and experience Roman government in the heart of the Roman forum! Families are free to arrange their own accommodations in Rome, or to stay with the program instructors in housing arranged by the Paideia Institute.  For more information on housing and rates, please contact us.

Families should make their own travel arrangements to Rome. The Living Latin in Rome staff will meet them either at the Paideia accommodations or at the welcome dinner on the first night of the program. All travel within Rome is organized and conducted by Paideia staff.

The cost of Living Latin in Rome Middle School is $950 per student and $750 per participating parent. This amount includes tuition, site visits, course materials, and several course meals.

The Paideia Institute is able to offer a number of full and partial scholarship to students with financial need. Please visit our scholarships page to learn more.
