Telepaideia Course Levels

Are you not sure what level course to choose? You may be in a different level for conversation courses than you would be in a translation course. If you are unsure after reading these guidelines, contact [email protected] or explain your experience with the language when you register for your desired course.

Intensive courses are for beginners and cover the basics of grammar, vocabulary, reading and speaking.

Beginning conversational courses cover the basics of speaking. Beginning conversational Latin or Greek is for those who have completed the core of grammar and vocabulary in the respective language. These courses are not for absolute beginners in the language. High school conversational Latin encompasses a larger range of levels, although it is also not suitable for absolute beginners.

Intermediate reading courses are for those who have already covered the basics of grammar and vocabulary.

Intermediate conversational courses are for those with experience specifically in speaking the language. Therefore, intermediate level Greek and Latin conversational courses require a higher general level of facility with vocabulary and other practical elements of the language than intermediate reading courses.

Advanced reading courses are for those with confidence and experience reading and translating authentic texts.

Advanced conversational courses are for those with significant experience in speaking the language. Therefore, advanced level Greek and Latin conversational courses require a higher general level of facility with vocabulary and other practical elements of the language than advanced reading courses.

Courses in translation and special courses may specify further requirements for participation within their individual course descriptions.
