AN INTENSIVE LATIN SUMMER PROGRAM FOR ANTHEM PREP STUDENTS
June 7th - July 30th, 2021
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Living Latin Online is an intensive online Latin experience designed to improve students’ Latin reading ability by introducing them to the use of Latin as an active, spoken language. This summer, Anthem Prep has partnered with The Paideia Institute to create a tailored online learning experience which will supercharge students’ Latin over the summer and prepare them for their travel experience in Italy & Greece next year.
Although second language acquisition research has shown that speaking and writing a language greatly improves students’ reading ability and familiarity with vocabulary and grammar, Latin is often taught as a dead language. The Paideia Institute’s innovative pedagogy changes the way Latin is taught by bringing it to life in the classroom. Employing state-of-the-art curriculum materials our expert Latin-speaking teachers activate students’ Latin and immerse them in the language like never before.
This program also prepares students for Anthem Prep's trip to Italy & Greece with the Paideia Institute, scheduled in summer 2022. To learn more about that trip, visit the designated page here.
DAILY SCHEDULE
The program meets twice per week for one hour per meeting. These sessions include both spoken Latin activities as well as readings from the textbook. Homework assignments (approximately 30 mins per class) focused on reading and writing Latin are also assigned.
Small groups will be formed based on level of Latin preparation and family scheduling preferences. Please be sure to indicate this information using the scheduling button below so that we can place you in the appropriate section.
BOOKS AND COURSE MATERIALS
The course will use Living Latin: A Graded Reader, a new online Latin curriculum developed by the Paideia Institute. A digital copy will be included with the cost of tuition. Students may also enjoy using the Duolingo Latin course while they take the program. Duolingo, the world’s largest language learning app, has developed a fun and intuitive online platform for learning forgeign languages. Duolingo’s Latin course, which was developed in partnership with the Paideia Institute, integrates with the other materials used on this course.
