Course Description: Herodotus’ Ἱστορίαι is one of the most important ancient texts that laid the foundations of what came to be the Western historiographical tradition. In this course, students will read and discuss excerpts from the second book of this famous work, which covers the history and customs of the Egyptians. In addition to the historical content, special attention will be given to the study of the Ionic dialect.
