Course Description: Learn to read the Hebrew Bible in its original language! In this course, emphasis will be on developing students’ competence in reading and writing the Hebrew letters, and on building vocabulary and basic grammar. Learning materials will include authentic Biblical texts, and practical exercises in reading, writing, and grammar. Student participation will be strongly encouraged in the course's hands-on approach to language acquisition.

Instructor

Ruth Spivak

Ruth Spivak received her B.A. in Jewish Studies from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. She obtained her M.A. in Greek and Roman Studies from the University of Calgary, Alberta. Ruth has taught Biblical Hebrew and Latin at the University of Calgary and currently teaches private and group lessons in Hebrew and Latin. Ruth is passionate about learning and teaching languages. She speaks Spanish, French, Italian, English, and Hebrew and hopes to learn German. In her spare time, she loves to read, play piano, cook, and spend time with her family. She lives in Calgary, Alberta.
