Course Description: Read the Bible in its original language! We will read the Book of Ruth, a tale of loyalty, immigration, women, love, redemption, and more. Emphasis will be on furthering students’ competence in reading, grammar, writing, and vocabulary. Learning materials will include authentic Biblical text, lexicons, Biblical commentaries, and practical exercises in reading, writing, and grammar. Student participation will be strongly encouraged as an essential component of practice.

DETAILS

Level: Ability to read Hebrew at a slow-medium pace, basic grammar and vocabulary covered in Biblical Hebrew I. Please email instructor to inquire.

Instructor

Ruth Spivak

Ruth Spivak received her B.A. in Jewish Studies from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. She obtained her M.A. in Greek and Roman Studies from the University of Calgary, Alberta. Ruth has taught Biblical Hebrew and Latin at the University of Calgary and currently teaches private and group lessons in Hebrew and Latin. Ruth is passionate about learning and teaching languages. She speaks Spanish, French, Italian, English, and Hebrew and hopes to learn German. In her spare time, she loves to read, play piano, cook, and spend time with her family. She lives in Calgary, Alberta.
