Course Description: Everyone starts somewhere. During this session, we will read Cicero's defense speech from his first major public case, the Pro Roscio Amerino. In this speech, Cicero successfully defends Sextus Roscius against the charge that he murdered his father. Victory in this case brought Cicero great fame and pitted his against one of Sulla's confederates.

Emily Jusino

Emily Jusino earned a B.A. in Theater and Classics from William and Mary and her Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Chicago. She has taught Latin and Greek at Duke University and the University of Rochester. Her academic research focused on Greek tragedy and Sophocles in particular. She is currently pursuing a career in project management. Outside of work and reading Latin and Greek, you can find her teaching Jazzercise or performing in community theater. This is her second term teaching for Paideia.
