Course Description: Join us to discuss selections from Ovid's Heroides in Latin, as Latin. No translation. We will employ such techniques as paraphrase and summary as we read selections from these timeless letters together. Feel free to use any copy of the text.

Level: This course is designed primarily for Latin teachers. We will start slowly and build up speed at the pace of the participants. A little previous experience in speaking Latin is helpful.

Instructor

Laura Manning

Laura is a Latin teacher with nineteen years of experience teaching Latin in diverse environments and at different levels, from Introductory Latin through AP. Early in the course of her teaching career, Laura developed an interest in active Latin teaching methods. She has been facilitating the active use of Latin in the Conventiculum Lexintoniense, of which she has been an avid participant since 2004. Laura started in MCLLC as a Classics TA in 2014; in August 2016, Laura earned her MA in Classics and the Graduate Certificate in Latin studies. In August 2021, she earned the PhD in Interdisciplinary Education Sciences with a focus on active Latin pedagogy, investigating teaching methods that have supported the teaching of Latin as a second language for millennia.
