Robert Conn received his M.A. in Classical Archaeology from Florida State University and his Ph.D in Classical Civilizations from the University of Florida. As a founding faculty member of Thaden School in Bentonville, AR, and the inaugural chair of the World Languages department, he cultivated a curriculum that has emphasized spoken Latin since the school’s inception in 2017. He is dedicated to integrating archaeology into his teaching, co-developing innovative courses such as The Culinary and Cultural Roots of Western Civilization. His interdisciplinary courses and projects bridge language, history, and archaeology, and he fosters engagement through student-centered activities, including games and a spoken Latin lunch.
As a participant in The Paideia Institute’s LLiNYC conference in 2019 and later the Living Latin in Rome program in 2022, he had the opportunity to connect with many other Latin speakers. Paideia’s Rome program motto, loci in locis, inspired him to create a graffiti project for his Latin students, providing them with a creative way to engage with the language and participate in creating Thaden’s loci in locis. These initial students later attended LLiNYC in 2023, allowing them to connect with fellow Latin speakers and deepen their understanding of the language in an immersive environment. Robert is thrilled to present the latest iteration of his graffiti project with his current students at LLiNYC 2025!
