Lucian's True History

Lucian's True History

Course Description: A True History is often described as the first science fiction novel—it is even mentioned in an exhibit at the Air and Space Museum as the oldest text to imagine a journey to the moon. It contains elements of science fiction, fantasy, satire, parody, and mythology. In this session, we will read the second book of the narrative as our narrator and his companions escape from a whale and discover the Isles of the Blessed. It is outlandish, humorous, and entertaining, and our narrator assures us that it all totally happened (wink, wink).
