Course Description: Although Pius II reigned for too short a time to leave a substantial mark on the history of the Renaissance papacy, he was a Humanist of historical standard who left a novel as well as memorial of his life and times in the form of his 'Commentaries in Thirteen Books'. This reading course will read selections from this penetrating and entertaining work, in which Pius examines the historical events of his time and skewers the major players.
