Plutarch's Lives

*Please note that this course will run only if two or more students enroll.

Course Description: Much of our understanding of ancient history and culture has been influenced by Plutarch– a Greek who flourished in the Roman empire around 100 CE. He solidified the genre of biography in Western culture. He also emphasized the importance of character and ethics in education; virtues and vices are fundamental to his many works. This course will focus on several of his 48 Lives. Instruction is in English; reading the Greek is encouraged.
