Poliziano: The Pazzi Conspiracy (1478)

Poliziano: The Pazzi Conspiracy (1478)

Course Description: Angelo Poliziano’s ‘Coniurationis Pactianae Commentarium’ is a gripping eyewitness account of one of the most dramatic episodes of the Italian Renaissance: the Pazzi Conspiracy of 1478, a daring plot by the Pazzi family and their allies to assassinate Lorenzo de’ Medici and seize control of Florence. Fans of Sallust and his Bellum Catilinae will feel right home. In this course, we will read the work in its entirety.
