Course Description: While the history of the Christianisation of southern Britain remains safe in the hands of figures such as St Augustine of Canterbury, the Christianisation of northern Britain (the borderlands of what is now England and Scotland and Pictish Scotland) remain little known to the general public. This Latin reading course will explore the lives of three seminal figures in the evangelisation of this region by reading sections of Aelred of Rievaulx's Vita Niniani, Bede's Vita Metrica Sancti Cuthberti, and Adomnán's Vita Sancti Columbae.
