February 13-14, 2021

Program Description

Living Latin and Greek Online is a two-day virtual living Latin and Ancient Greek conference hosted by The Paideia Institute. The conference is designed to allow teachers and students of Latin and Greek to explore and practice using the ancient languages as active living languages. The conference features guest lectures in Latin and Ancient Greek on the program’s theme by speakers from all over the world, as well as smaller breakout sessions which allow participants to practice speaking Latin and Greek themselves.

Guest Speakers and Instructors

The theme for the 2021 conference is Solitude and Society

The conference will run from 9am - 5pm Eastern Standard Time on Saturday February 13th and Sunday February 14th. More precise scheduling information, as well as Zoom links and access codes for individual lectures and breakout sessions, will be made available in the weeks leading up to the event.

Thanks to a partnership with Flyover Zone, this year's conference will feature a virtual Latin language tour of a reconstruction of the Roman Forum from the 3rd Century CE.

Those with at least a basic knowledge of Latin and/or Ancient Greek vocabulary and grammar will get the most out of this conference. However, beginners or rusty erstwhile classicists will feel welcome and supported in our beginners breakout sessions, and experienced latinists and hellenists will be challenged at the advanced level.  No experience speaking Latin or Ancient Greek is required!

The registration fee for the Living Latin and Greek Online conference is $50. After February 1st a late registration fee of $10 will be assessed to all registrations.

Thanks to the support of our donors and sponsors, the registration fee may be reduced or waived for students and teachers who would like to attend the conference, but cannot do so for financial reasons.  Requests for scholarships should be sent by email to [email protected] by February 1st.
