Τῆς Ἀγάπης Κυριακιδῆς

Συγγραφή/Abstract: Τῶν μὲν οὖν πολλῶν ἡρώων τῷ Ἰάσονι ὀπαδούντων ἐν τοῖς Ἀπολλωνίου τοῦ Ῥοδίου Ἀργοναυτικοῖς μάλα διαφέρεται ὁ Ἡρακλῆς. Oὐ γὰρ δέχεται ὡς ὄρχαμον αἱρεῖσθαι τῆς ἑταιρείας καὶ πολλάκις λείπεται τοτὲ μὲν ἑκὼν τοτὲ δὲ ἄκων. Διὰ τί ἐκ τῶν τεττάρων βιβλίων ἐξαιρούμενος καταλείπεται ὁ Ἡρακλῆς ὑπὸ τῶν ναυτῶν πρὸς τὸ τέλος τοῦ πρώτου βιβλίου; ἆρά ἐστι ἡ ἰδία αὐθάδεια τοῦ Ἡρακλέους κρείττων ἤ τινα τρόπον σοφωτέρα τῆς πεῖρας τοῦ Ἰάσονος καὶ τῶν ναυτῶν; αὕτη ἀκρόασις ἐξετάζει τὴν παρουσίαν καὶ τὴν ἀπουσίαν τοιούτου ἥρωος.

Luby Kiriakidi is a 2020 Masters in Classics recipient from Durham University. She wrote on cosmic etymologies in Varro’s De Lingua Latina following her undergraduate honors thesis on Cratylan wordplay at Cornell University. She has been hooked on Paideia since the 2016 Living Latin in NYC conference, and is an alumna of Living Latin in Rome, Living Greek in Greece, Living Latin in Paris, and the Rome Fellowship. Luby likes to learn both ancient and modern languages and hopes to make a living as a teacher.
